ROCHESTER, N.Y.Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, a not-for-profit manufacturer of a wide offering of AbilityOne products, has partnered with Mobile Pixels Inc. to launch an innovative portable secondary laptop monitor to the federal market. The SKILCRAFT Mobile Pixels monitor — a portable monitor that easily attaches to a laptop and is compatible with macOS and Windows — is an AbilityOne mandatory source item for the federal government. The technology was developed by Mobile Pixels, with kitting, light manufacturing and packaging completed at Goodwill of the Finger Lakes’ Rochester, New York, facility by people who are blind.

“As the federal workplace shifted from the majority of employees needing to be on location to a combination of remote and hybrid work, Goodwill of the Finger Lakes wanted to find a way to bring products to the federal marketplace that could support the needs of the modern federal employee while creating new employment opportunities for individuals who are blind,” Goodwill Director of Business Development Joe Kells said. “We felt Mobile Pixels was pushing the boundaries of mobile productivity and their product offered a perfect combination of an innovative solution and an opportunity to create new employment in our Rochester community. We are excited to bring to our valued federal and local customers a solution that enhances their productivity anywhere work takes them.”

The monitor magnetically mounts to a laptop as a secondary 1080p full HD working screen and features full-functional USB-C ports, supporting both power delivery and data transmission over a single cable. It weighs only 1.7 pounds and is 0.25” at its thinnest point. It is energy efficient, and specially designed to reduce battery drain on the laptop. Additionally, the device is made with ABS and aluminum so it can withstand the wear and tear that comes with being on the go and use in the field. The SKILCRAFT Mobile Pixels portable monitor for laptops features autorotation and can be used in landscape mode, portrait mode, presentation mode, eyecare mode or kickstand mode.

This new AbilityOne product will be available through over 400 resellers that bring products to the federal market on a global basis as well as locally through Goodwill of the Finger Lakes’ ecommerce site gflsolutions.org.

The AbilityOne Program is one of the largest sources of employment in the United States for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. 450 AbilityOne nonprofit organizations across the U.S. supplied $3.9 billion in products and services to the Federal Government in FY2021. The U.S. AbilityOne Commission maintains a list of products and services that are a mandatory purchase by federal agencies. These products and services are produced or provided by people who are blind or have severe disabilities.

“Our social enterprise programs at Goodwill of the Finger Lakes employ individuals in our community with barriers to independence,” CEO Jennifer Lake said. “For these SKILCRAFT Mobile Pixels Portable Monitors specifically, our team is putting the product kits together. We’re grateful for partnerships like the one we have with Mobile Pixels, as they bring innovative solutions to our valued federal customer while creating new jobs for our colleagues who are blind.”

Goodwill of the Finger Lakes’ manufacturing team produces, packages and distributes over 150 different AbilityOne products in partnership with 3M, Newell Rubbermaid, Meterpak, Mobile Pixels and Zing Enterprise.
