Rochester, NY-based brewery wins award in Juicy or Hazy Imperial India Pale Ale category that had 145 entries from around the world

Rochester, NY • April 25, 2024—Strangebird won a bronze at the 2024 World Beer Cup, the most prestigious beer competition in the world. The award ceremony took place on April 24, 2024, at The Venetian in Las Vegas where breweries from around the world were judged in 110 beer-style categories. Micah Krichinsky, Founder and Brewer; Eric Salazar, Director of Wood Aged Beers; and Jeff Ching, Managing Partner were on hand to receive the award.

Strangebird was recognized in the Juicy or Hazy Imperial India Pale Ale (IPA) beer style category for its Unfettered Soul, a Hazy Double IPA. Unfettered Soul is double dry-hopped with huge doses of Mosaic and Australian Galaxy hops, making it a medium-bodied and supremely balanced beer.

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award at the 2024 World Beer Cup. To know that Unfettered Soul won bronze out of 145 entries in the Juicy or Hazy Imperial IPA category is unreal.” said Micah Krichinsky, Founder and Brewer at Strangebird. “We are especially humbled that Strangebird was one of only two New York State breweries to bring home World Beer Cup awards this year.”

Strangebird’s World Beer Cup bronze comes on the heels of multiple awards at 2024’s New York State Craft Beer Competition, including Best Collaboration Beer for Breaking Bird, Gold for Portuguese Squeeze (Barrel Aged, Non-Sour), and Silver for Breaking Bird (Wild and Sour Ales). At the 2022 New York State Craft Beer Competition, Strangebird took home the Brewery of the Year award.

Often referred to as “The Olympics of Beer,” the World Beer Cup recognizes international brewing excellence. This year’s winners were selected by an international panel of 280 beer judges from 37 countries; 9,300 total entries from 2,060 breweries and 50 total countries were evaluated.

The Brewers Association developed the World Beer Cup Competition in 1996 to celebrate the art and science of brewing. For additional information, visit the World Beer Cup website.
