February Break Camp All About Wicked

date
January 28, 2026

Rochester, NY—Writers & Books, Rochester’s premier home for the literary arts, and the Rochester Broadway Theatre League (RBTL) are excited to launch Books & Broadway: Wicked, a collaborative, day-long youth camp offered during February Break. The camp runs February 16 – 20, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Registration is available through RBTL’s website.

This is the first youth camp collaboration between Writers & Books and RBTL. The camp’s title highlights the literary roots of the beloved Broadway musical, Wicked, drawing inspiration from both the stage production and the novel on which it is based.

The camp offers a unique opportunity for participants to be on site at RBTL during the opening week of Wicked while engaging deeply with the story through an integrated theatre-based and creative writing model. Campers will explore character development and perspective, examining well-known “villains” (both real and fictional) while building empathy by considering the untold stories behind them.
Through imagination-rich activities, campers will create original character backstories, participate in collaborative storytelling, and engage in creative writing exercises inspired by the themes of Wicked. Books and Broadway fosters empathy, creativity, and confidence while strengthening reading and writing skills.
