Breast Cancer Coalition Celebrates Action at ACTober
Rochester, NY – The Breast Cancer Coalition is pleased to present ACTober on Thursday, October 16, at ARTISANworks. As one of the Coalition’s three annual events, ACTober represents the importance of taking action throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month and year-round. With all funds raised staying local, this informal yet fun-filled cocktail party is a way to support those impacted by breast and gynecologic cancers while enjoying one of the most renowned art spaces in Rochester.
Deanna Dewberry of WHEC News 10 will once again emcee the evening’s festivities, including a live auction and paddle call. This year, raising your paddle will leave twice the impact, as John Harris of Glover Crask Charitable Trust has pledged to match a number of paddle call contributions.
Van Bortel Auto Group will return as the presenting sponsor of ACTober. The automotive group focuses on philanthropy and has long supported the Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission.
"ACTober is such an exciting and meaningful event that allows us to celebrate and honor both survivors and extraordinary fighters who inspire us all through life and legacy as we come together with one common goal, to 'ACT for IMPACT.' That's really what it's all about and I'm proud to support such an incredible organization and mission that truly makes a difference in the lives of so many people. I encourage everyone to join in the act for impact!" says Kitty Van Bortel, owner of Van Bortel Auto Group.
In addition to an interactive scavenger hunt, well-known local artist, Lorraine Staunch, will be painting live throughout the evening. Her piece will then be part of the event’s live auction.
The evening will also feature a meaningful awards ceremony, honoring three local changemakers who have committed their work to the breast and gynecologic cancer survivor community. The Heart & Hands Award is presented to an outstanding oncology provider in the region who has prioritized empathy, kindness, and dedication to patient care. Nominated by breast and gynecologic cancer patients directly, this year will honor two recipients: Dr. Jan Dombrowski, Radiation Oncologist at University of Rochester Medical Center, and Dr. Nicole Rubin, Gynecologic Oncologist at Rochester Regional Health.
The Advocate’s Spirit Award honors those who drive change in the cancer community. Nominated by the Coalition’s Advocacy Committee, this year’s honoree is Judith Epstein, Director of Grant and Foundation Development at the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation.
This will be a can’t-miss event of the year. Take action today – purchase a ticket to ACTober at bccr.org/actober or call (585) 473-8177.
