Leveraging HR Services to Overcome Workplace Challenges: Measuring What Matters

date
July 21, 2026

Today's most effective HR leaders are expected to drive business results. To earn a seat at the strategic table, HR must be able to identify workforce challenges, recommend solutions, and demonstrate measurable outcomes. In previous articles in our Leveraging HR Services to Overcome Workplace Challenges series, we examined how HR professionals can participate in benchmarking surveys to have access to and use survey data to guide decisions and prioritize investments.  The next step is demonstrating whether those investments are delivering the intended results.

Organizations invest in compensation, benefits, leadership development, recruiting, and employee well-being to address workforce challenges. To determine whether these investments are making a difference, employers need a clear understanding of where they stand today, where they want to go, and how they will measure progress along the way. For example, an employer may enhance its medical benefits package to improve recruitment and retention, which is important as health care and other costs continue to rise. Success could be measured through metrics such as offer acceptance rates, employee retention, benefits survey satisfaction scores, and employee feedback regarding the affordability and competitiveness of the organization's health plans.

Greater Rochester Chamber's HR Services team can help employers identify relevant benchmarking data using one or more of our annual surveys such as the Health Benefits Survey, now in it's 28th year. Or we can help gather meaningful workforce metrics to establish baselines and track progress over time such as through a custom employee engagement survey, or a more targeted survey specific to your benefits offerings.  Understanding where you are today is the first step toward making smarter workforce decisions tomorrow.  Stay tuned to continue learning about opportunities to leverage the chamber's HR Services to overcome workplace challenges.
