The Arc of Monroe Marks 70 Years of Opportunity, Invites Media to Spotlight Local Worker During NDEAM
October feature opportunity with Maurice at the Schottland Family YMCA highlights the value of inclusive employment
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — As The Arc of Monroe celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2026, the organization is inviting local media to spotlight Maurice, a person supported by The Arc, and an employee at the Schottland Family YMCA, during National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October.
Founded in 1956, The Arc of Monroe supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Its anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on seven decades of progress while highlighting the people and workplaces helping advance inclusion today.
Celebrated nationally each October, this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” recognizes the skills and contributions people with disabilities bring to our workplaces, communities and economy, while highlighting the importance of access to employment opportunities. A feature on Maurice would bring that message to life through a local story about his work, experiences and place on the YMCA team.
Maurice receives employment support through The Arc of Monroe’s Job Path program, working with his employment specialist, or job coach, Jarrod, who helps him build skills and succeed in his role at the Schottland Family YMCA.
Maurice and Jarrod are both open to media interviews and are available Wednesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 29 from 7 a.m. to noon. Interviews can explore Maurice’s perspective on his work, his contributions to the YMCA and the role employers play in creating inclusive workplaces.
Media opportunity: Interviews with Maurice and Jarrod at the Schottland Family YMCA, with potential photography or video of Maurice at work, subject to YMCA coordination.
