Rochester, NY – The Breast Cancer Coalition is pleased to present ACTober on Thursday, October 1, at ARTISANworks. As one of the Coalition’s three annual events, ACTober represents the importance of taking action throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month and year-round. This informal yet fun-filled cocktail party is a way to support those affected by breast and gynecologic cancers while enjoying one of the most renowned art spaces in Rochester.

Deanna Dewberry of WHEC News 10 will once again emcee the evening’s festivities, including a live auction and paddle call.

This year’s honorary co-chairs are Colleen and Ed Molina. “Ed and I are deeply honored to co-chair ACTober this year,” Colleen said. “Looking back to when I was diagnosed in February 2020 – 33 weeks pregnant with our son and navigating the onset of the pandemic – the Coalition was an immediate lifeline. From my initial intake and educational seminars on surgical options to connecting me with a mentor who had also faced a diagnosis during pregnancy, they ensured I was never alone and never uninformed.”

After her diagnosis and treatment, Colleen’s involvement with the Coalition didn’t stop – it only grew stronger.

“Over the past six years, this incredible community empowered me to move from receiving support to giving back as an advocate, mentor and board member,” she said. “Co-chairing ACTober is one more way to help ensure every survivor who walks through these doors receives that same transformative, unwavering support.”

All funds raised at ACTober help to ensure that individuals like Colleen have the services and support they need from the point of diagnosis onward – all at no cost to them.

Van Bortel Auto Group will return as the event’s presenting sponsor. The automotive group focuses on philanthropy and has long supported the Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission. The evening will also feature a meaningful awards ceremony, honoring two local changemakers who have committed their work to the breast and gynecologic cancer survivor community. The Heart & Hands Award is presented to an outstanding provider in the region who has prioritized empathy, kindness and dedication to patient care. Nominated by breast and gynecologic cancer patients directly, this year will honor Melissa Clark, MS, OTR/L, CLT, owner of Clark Cancer & Lymphedema Therapy.

The Advocate’s Spirit Award honors those who drive change in the cancer community. Nominated by the Coalition’s Advocacy Committee, this year’s honoree is Evan Dawson, journalist, author and host of WXXI’s Connections with Evan Dawson.
