Leveraging HR Services to Overcome Workplace Challenges: Investing in Employee Development to Achieve Stronger Results

Throughout this series, we've explored how workforce data helps organizations identify challenges, guide decision-making, and demonstrate measurable impact. As we've emphasized, HR plays a critical role in using those insights to make informed investments in people,.  Yet training budgets are often viewed as an expense rather than an investment. In reality, expecting employees and leaders to succeed without ongoing development is like asking a sports team to compete for a championship without investing in a playbook, coaching, or practice. Success requires continuous learning, skill development, and reinforcement.

As organizations begin planning for the coming year, consider proposing a dedicated training budget aligned with workforce and business priorities. According to LinkedIn's 2025 Workplace Learning Report, 88% of organizations are concerned about employee retention, and providing learning opportunities is cited as the leading retention strategy. Investing in employee development strengthens workforce capability today while helping organizations achieve stronger results tomorrow.

Next in the series: We'll explore how connecting with HR peers through Greater Rochester Chamber's HR Forums can help professionals stay ahead of emerging workplace challenges, exchange best practices, and gain practical insights to strengthen their organizations.

Note: Incumbent worker training grant funds (IWT) may be available through RochesterWorks that could provide up to 90% matching reimbursement for preapproved, training-related costs, up to a maximum of $10,000. Our 3 training programs have been preliminarily reviewed and RochesterWorks confirmed they are eligible, so employers next need to apply and confirm they meet the eligibility requirements.  If you are considering doing a training with your employees, we encourage you to review the eligibility requirements and begin discussions with RochesterWorks at least 45 days before the training start date. Because grant application review may take up to 30 days, early planning is important.  Click here for more information.
