Leveraging HR Services to Overcome Workplace Challenges: Employee Development Opportunities To Drive Results

date
July 28, 2026

Throughout this series, we've explored how workforce data helps HR identify challenges, guide decision-making, and demonstrate measurable impact, strengthening HR's role as a strategic partner at the leadership table. As organizations use these insights to align workforce strategies with business goals, investing in the development of employees, supervisors, and HR professionals becomes one of the most effective ways to address workplace challenges, strengthen organizational performance, and prepare for future success. HR professionals can further strengthen the business case for these investments by combining internal workforce data with external research that demonstrates the impact of skill development on organizational performance.

Whether the challenge is recruitment, retention, inconsistent management practices, or compliance concerns, many workplace challenges can be traced back to gaps in knowledge, skills, or confidence. This is reflected in research, such as The Future of Jobs Report by The World Economic Forum (2025-2030 edition) – “Skill gaps in the labor market are the primary barrier to business transformation…(based on) 63% of surveyed employers,” which is even more pronounced than the previous edition.   It is also reflected in Gallup research, which shares a report that “…shows managers account for approximately 70% of the variance in employee engagement, highlighting the significant impact supervisor and manager development can have on employee retention, performance, and organizational success.”  Therefore, when organizations invest in building management and leadership development, they are not only addressing individual skill gaps but also strengthening the employee experience and improving overall organizational effectiveness.

In the coming weeks, we'll explore opportunities to leverage Greater Rochester Chamber's HR Services and professional development offerings to build workforce capability, increase confidence among teams to make better decisions, solve problems more effectively, and navigate change with greater confidence.
