Abbott’s Frozen Custard on Lake Avenue Opens for Historic 100th Season
The original Rochester landmark celebrates a century of tradition, secret recipes, and summer memories
ROCHESTER, NY — In 1926, after many years of traveling the country, Arthur Abbott fell in love with the community of Rochester, New York and opened a custard stand at the corner of Lake and Beach Avenues. On Wednesday, March 18th at noon, that historic Lake Avenue stand officially opened its windows for its 100th season, continuing a century of scooping smiles as the home of Abbott’s Frozen Custard.
While there are now many Abbott’s stands, the Lake Avenue location in the Charlotte neighborhood remains the heartbeat of the brand. For 100 years, it has served as a landmark for the city—a place where the secret family recipe is enjoyed by generations of Rochesterians who come to mark the start of summer. Today, the Lake Avenue stand continues to follow Arthur's founding motto: “...it’s always been about the taste!” It remains a destination for those who grew up in Rochester, as well as those returning home for a visit.

Centennial Celebration Save the Date: To honor this milestone, the Lake Avenue stand will host a day of community-focused festivities on Friday, July 17th. Details regarding the centennial event, including special guest appearances, will be released in the coming weeks.
