Governor Hochul Awards $7.5 Million for Youth Safe Spaces; Delphi Rise Among Four Organizations Chosen Statewide
Newark, NY — 9/8/25 — Governor Kathy Hochul this week announced $7.5 million in awards to four nonprofit, community-based organizations to launch Youth Safe Spaces across New York State. Administered by the New York State Office of Mental Health, these peer-led, non-clinical programs will support youth ages 12 to 24 by providing safe, welcoming environments where they can connect with peers, build resilience, and access culturally responsive resources.
Delphi Rise is honored to be one of only four organizations selected statewide. Through this award, Delphi Rise will receive $250,000 annually over five years to establish a Youth Safe Space at the Alex Eligh Community Center in Newark.
For decades, Newark’s leaders have prioritized engaging and including youth in planning and outreach efforts. This new initiative builds on that commitment, ensuring that young people who may otherwise feel disengaged, unappreciated, or unsafe will now have a welcoming place to feel connected, supported, and valued.
Jennifer Cathy, President and CEO of Delphi Rise, stated: “We are truly honored to be selected to launch this important initiative in our community. Together with the Alex Eligh Community Center and our dedicated partners across Wayne County, we are excited to create a safe, peer-led space where young people will find hope, connection, and the support they need to thrive.”
The initiative reflects Delphi Rise’s longstanding presence in Wayne County and the deep partnerships built with schools, providers, and community organizations. These collaborations laid the groundwork for this award and will be essential to Youth Safe Space’s success.
