Reconnect Rochester to Host Group Rides for Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 16
Friday, May 16th is National Bike to Work Day! Reconnect Rochester is hosting its annual bike to work pitstop starting at 7:30 am at Austin Steward Plaza. Anyone is welcome to stop by, bike or no bike!
For those who are regular bike commuters or just want to try it out, Reconnect Rochester is leading 4 different group rides on the morning of Friday, May 16th - one from each quadrant of the City of Rochester - to our annual Bike to Work Day pit stop at Austin Steward Plaza.
This is also the time to boost employee engagement, highlighting any bike parking you have or requesting a bike rack from the City.
DID YOU KNOW? The average Rochester resident is only 4.1-miles away from their workplace.
Information for the rides:
- Reconnect Rochester is leading the morning rides, but it is your responsibility to securely lock your bike during the work day - BRING A STURDY LOCK! Don't have one? Buy one from a local bike shop!
- There is no group ride planned in the afternoon - use the same low-stress route to get home or explore other ways to get around by bike using our ROC Easy Bike Map!
Reconnect Rochester staff and volunteers will lead their respective groups at a casual pace along the growing Bike Boulevard network. This network follows traffic-calmed streets through neighborhoods, largely avoiding the need to bike along busy, intimidating roads.
When the 4 group rides converge on Austin Steward Plaza beside the Genesee River at 8:30am, everyone can enjoy free coffee and breakfast courtesy of Reconnect Rochester.
All groups will meet up at their respective rendezvous points at 7:30 am for a prompt 8 am departure. Please ensure your bike is tuned up and ready beforehand and that your tires have sufficient air pressure. There will be a quick waiver to sign on site before the ride begins.
Participants are encouraged to bike to the rendezvous spot in their quadrant. Reconnect Rochester has made a map for each quadrant of low-stress approaches to the rendezvous point.
