Rochester Red Wings Can Host May 18 Home Opener Using May 19 Expanded Attendance Guidelines

date
May 11, 2021

Earlier this month, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that large-scale outdoor venues could increase capacity effective May 19. For baseball, this means “vaccinated sections” could host 100% capacity and “unvaccinated sections” could host 33% capacity. With the Rochester Red Wings home opener planned for the evening of May 18, Greater Rochester Chamber swung into action to contact and work with state decision makers to ensure the Rochester Red Wings are able to apply the updated May 19 guidance for their May 18 evening home opener. This special dispensation means that even more fans will be able to attend the Red Wings historic return, after no games were played during the 2020 season.

“Thank you to the Greater Rochester Chamber team for working with state decision makers to allow the Rochester Red Wings to apply the updated May 19th guidance for our May 18th evening home opener, and welcome even more fans back to the ballpark. We greatly appreciate the care and effort that they put into advocating for the needs of their members and community. We are looking forward to a season of sport, celebration, and healing that we all need after such a tough year.”
