NYS DOL Announces Unemployment System Upgrade Starting Nov. 2nd

The New York State Department of Labor Unemployment Services upgrade will begin Monday, November 2, 2026, and last for approximately 9-12 days. During the upgrade process, NYS DOL will transition to a modernized unemployment insurance system, and unemployment insurance services will be temporarily unavailable. This means individuals will be unable to file new claims, certify for weekly benefits, or access account information. While benefit payments will be delayed, eligible claimants will receive all benefits owed once the new system is available.

Once launched, the new system is expected to provide a more user-friendly experience, including enhanced self-service options, real-time updates, and easier access to unemployment insurance services.  Employers should also note that existing Unemployment Insurance Online Services (UIOS) users will continue to use their current login credentials and will not need to create a new account. However, employers who do not currently have a UIOS account will need to create an account once the upgraded system becomes available in order to access online services.

To prepare, employers and HR professionals are encouraged to review the state's resources and share important information with employees, especially those exiting the company.
