On August 6th, Governor Hochul signed S.10113/A.11217; a bill that “Allows Licensed Microbusinesses [with] Dispensaries To Sell Cannabis at Approved Events”. This change to the laws opens new opportunity for these small businesses; It also gives consumers across the state more direct access to small-batch, high-quality, local products. This legislation will hopefully give some much needed relief some to the Microbusinesses in the NYS cannabis industry, However not all Micros have retail dispensaries. In the California market, which is further into legalization, very few of the small, local, “mom-and-pop” operations were able to survive. Legislation like S.10113/A.11217 is a good step to ensuring the fate of the New York State market does not follow that path, but it ultimately relies on consumers actively choosing to shop small, and shop local. Curt Boshnack, owner of Sunwalker Farms believes “all micros should have the ability to make retail money to elevate their businesses...”, retail dispensary or not, “Let the micro survive anyway it can!”
The third showcase, on August 26th, features 18 NYS farmers and processors: 6 Point Cannabis (Rochester), Circle Hill Rosin (Wayne), Dreaming Tree Farm (Saratoga), Gage Farms (Yates), Grass Roots Wellness (East Rochester), FLWR CITY (Rochester), Forest Flower (Canandaigua), Leadfarmer (Bainbridge), Oasis Cannabis (East Amherst), Snowbelt Cannabis (Jamestown), Sunwalker Farms (Canandaigua), Tall Trees Farm (Branchport), 518 Hollow (Washington County), Lit by the Lake (Niagara Falls), Alpine Agronomy (Saranac Lake), Erie Side Farm (Kirkville), Cannabaceae (Chautauqua County), and Sticky’s Weed Farm (Essex).
