Breast Cancer Coalition Presents Webinar on Dental Health During and After Cancer Treatment

date
July 16, 2026

Rochester, NY – Each month, the Breast Cancer Coalition hosts a webinar as part of the organization’s Evening Education Webinar Series. Focusing on a variety of topics related to health and wellness, the webinars are free and open to the public. On Wednesday, July 22 at 7:00 PM, join Cynthia Kuang, DDS, RN, for “Dental Health During and After Cancer Treatment.”

Cancer treatment can affect many parts of the body, and the mouth is no exception. Some individuals undergoing treatment for breast or gynecologic cancer may experience side effects like sensitive teeth, dry mouth, mouth sores, tooth decay, gum inflammation, changes in taste, or jaw discomfort. In some cases, these side effects may continue after treatment ends.

"Many people don't realize that cancer treatment can have lasting effects on oral health, but with the right knowledge and coordinated care, many of these complications can be prevented or managed,” said Dr. Kuang. “I hope this webinar empowers patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers with strategies to protect oral health and improve quality of life throughout the cancer journey."

Highlights of the webinar will include how cancer treatments can affect oral health, practical strategies to protect the teeth and gums during treatment, how to care for one’s oral health after treatment, when to see a dentist, and how dental providers and cancer care teams can work together to support the long-term oral health of their patients.

The Evening Educational Webinar Series is generously supported by the Lee C. Rosenthal Memorial Education Fund. ASL interpretation will be provided during the webinar. The 90-minute session will include at least 30 minutes for questions at the end. Register today at https://bccr.org/evening-education-webinars/ and submit questions in advance to rachel@bccr.org.

The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester’s mission is to cultivate community among those affected by breast or gynecologic cancers; to empower informed decision-making through education, compassionate support, and advocacy; and to advance regional research with an ultimate goal to eradicate breast and gynecologic cancers
