Breast Cancer Coalition Webinar Explores Everyday Exposures and Cancer on Earth Day
Rochester, NY – Each month, the Breast Cancer Coalition hosts a webinar as part of the organization’s Evening Education Webinar Series. Focusing on a variety of topics related to health and wellness, the webinars are free and open to the public. On Wednesday, April 22 at 7:00 PM, join for a discussion on everyday home exposures and cancer.
April 22 is Earth Day, a day recognized for protecting the planet and addressing environmental concerns and challenges. The Breast Cancer Coalition focuses on cultivating community, empowering informed decision-making and advocating for policies that reduce environmental exposures to cancer. Earth Day is a timely opportunity to highlight the work of local researchers that addresses the community’s cancer burden and one’s lived environment.
Presented by Katrina Korfmacher, PhD, and Becca Lauzon, PhD, of the Environmental Health Sciences Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center, the webinar will provide a clear, accessible conversation about environmental exposures in the home.
“Many chemicals in common household products, furniture and building materials can make their way into dust in homes, but residents can make choices that work for them to reduce their exposure,” said Dr. Lauzon.
Drs. Korfmacher and Lauzon will share recent research findings in Rochester homes and discuss common home exposures. The presentation will provide insight into what is known and what remains unknown about effects on health and cancer development.
This webinar is designed for patients, families, caregivers, health care providers, and anyone else interested in gaining greater understanding of the complex relationship between the home and one’s health. Join in to learn what individuals and communities can do to support healthier environments.
The Evening Educational Webinar Series is generously supported by the Lee C. Rosenthal Memorial Education Fund. ASL interpretation will be provided during the webinar. The 90-minute session will include at least 30 minutes for questions at the end. Register today at https://bccr.org/evening-education-webinars/ and submit questions in advance to rachel@bccr.org.
