Harold Kurland to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Rochester, NY, October 4, 2021Ward Greenberg Heller & Reidy LLP Partner Harold Kurland to be recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 2021 Legal Excellence Awards by the Rochester Business Journal and The Daily Record. The award, which will be presented in a ceremony in November, honors lawyers whose careers have helped shape the legal landscape in the Rochester area and who have shown longstanding commitment to the community.

A founding member of the firm, Harold Kurland is a well-known and respected litigator, mediator and arbitrator who has earned a reputation for commitment to excellence in the law and has demonstrated the highest levels of integrity, ethics, and civility throughout his career. A consummate professional with a calm and confident demeanor, he brings thoughtful and creative approaches to complex legal matters.

Mr. Kurland has long had an impact on the local and state bar. He served as President of the Monroe County Bar Association, as President of the Monroe County Bar Foundation, and also is a past President and Master of the Rochester Inns of Court. He has been very active in the New York State Bar Association as a member of several sections, including the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section, the Committee on Professional Ethics and served with distinction as a member of the organization’s House of Delegates. He is a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation. He has served for many years on the New York Office of Court Administration’s Advisory Committee on Civil Practice.

Mr. Kurland’s reputation expands well beyond state borders. He has tried matters across the country with distinction. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Bar Foundation, and an Associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Most recently, Mr. Kurland was named a “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers in America for Medical Malpractice Defense for 2021.

He is on the mediation panel of the U.S. District Court, Western District of New York and is certified by the International Mediation Institute. He is a mediator, arbitrator and instructor of the American Arbitration Association and is a member of the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.

Mr. Kurland also has had a lifelong commitment to the Rochester community through various active board roles including as a member of the Board of Directors of the Volunteer Legal Services Project. He also served on the Board of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, on the Board of Governors of the Genesee Valley Club, and is a past President of the Dartmouth Club of Rochester.
