(Binghamton, NY) – In a ceremony held in February, New York State Senator Lea Webb honored Visions Federal Credit Union’s President/CEO Ty Muse and other Black community leaders from the Southern Tier, NY region.

Senator Webb presented Muse with the Senate Commendation Award during a Black History Month celebration that underscored the vital contributions and achievements of Black individuals and businesses in the community. The award presentation noted that Muse’s leadership, characterized by positivity and encouragement, has significantly contributed to the economic development of the Southern Tier and that his active participation on numerous community boards and advisory councils nationwide further exemplifies his commitment to the community.

At the event, Senator Webb presented two NYS Senate Commendation Awards and one NYS Senate Empire Award, celebrating the spirit of community, philanthropy, leadership, and significant contributions to the local community.

Awards were also presented to:

  • Amos Malone, owner of The Legacy in Tompkins County, NY, was awarded the Empire Award. His establishment, The Legacy, marks a historic milestone as the first Black-owned business at the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport.
  • Brenda Cave James, also a recipient of a Commendation Award, was celebrated for her lifetime of service to others and her dedication to preserving and promoting the rich history of New York’s Broome County.

During the celebration, Senator Webb stated, "Today, we honor the luminaries among us who not only lead with vision and dedication but also inspire future generations to pursue excellence. Mr. Tyrone Muse, Mr. Amos Malone, and Ms. Brenda Cave James embody the spirit of service, leadership, and entrepreneurial success. Their contributions are not just milestones but beacons of hope and progress in our ongoing journey toward equality and inclusivity. As we celebrate Black History Month, let us all commit to supporting and uplifting the voices and achievements of the Black community, recognizing our indispensable role in weaving the rich fabric of our society."

The awards ceremony not only highlights the achievements of these distinguished individuals and businesses but also serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing and celebrating Black excellence, not only during Black History Month, but throughout the year.
