date
February 8, 2024

Rochester, New York (February 1, 2024) - Julie Chapus, founder and driving force behind Miss Julie's School of Beauty, has been honored with the prestigious 2024 ATHENA Award in Greater Rochester, NY by Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce and its Women's Council affiliate.

The ATHENA Award, a symbol of excellence, is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, professional excellence, and a commitment to community service.

Julie Chapus has tirelessly devoted eight years to bridging the realms of social work and cosmetology licensure. Her groundbreaking initiative involves the establishment of the nation's first Therapeutic Cosmetology School for trafficked survivors and those at risk. The school, set to open its doors in 2024, aims to provide a haven for survivors, blending beauty education with trauma-informed care.

To ensure the school's sustainable future, Julie Chapus and her team are diligently working on collecting multi-year operating expenses as mandated by the Department of State.

As part of their community outreach, Miss Julie's School of Beauty hosts monthly evidence-based Anti-Trafficking and Intervention Training, coupled with guided tours of their state-of-the-art facility located in downtown Sibley Building. The next event is scheduled for March 4th at  9 am 260 E Main, Rochester, New York, on the third floor in the Focus Theater Room. Coffee and croissants will be provided. Interested individuals are encouraged to register for the event on the school's website: www.missjuliesschoolofbeauty.org.

Miss Julie welcomes community members, potential partners, and supporters to engage with the school's mission. Those interested in being involved or scheduling a tour are encouraged to reach out directly.
