Rochester Salvation Army And Donuts Delite Deliver Sweet Thank You’s on National Donut Day

date
May 31, 2023

Rochester, NY - Held annually on the first Friday in June, National Donut Day is a delicious time to celebrate America’s heroes.

This Friday, June 2, staff and volunteers from The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester will thank community support staff and service workers by delivering donuts and words of thanks. This tradition dates back to World War I, when nearly 250 Salvation Army volunteers traveled overseas to provide emotional support, clothing, supplies, and fried confectionery to American troops.

For more than a century, the organization has continued to provide snacks, hydration, and comfort to first responders and front-line workers. The tradition returns in Rochester and around the country on Friday, June 2.

"National Donut Day is one of our favorite days of the year.” said Major Doug Burr of The Salvation Army. "We’re continuing this act of thanks and encouragement that was started more than 100 years ago. On June 2nd we will deliver smiles by the dozen and with volunteers joining in to appreciate those who serve others."

The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester traditionally works with Donuts Delite to celebrate this day of goodness. Together they plan to prepare and deliver more than 100 donuts on Friday, June 2 to local fire departments, emergency care centers, and other community service locations.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Salvation Army again this year." said Nick Semeraro, Owner of Donuts Delite. "To be part of something that has so much meaning behind it is very special and I'm proud to continue this partnership."

To further celebrate, both Donuts Delite locations will be offering a FREE mini apple fritter with purchase on Friday, June 2nd.

Outside of Donut Day, The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester provides nourishment year-round to those experiencing homelessness or struggling to buy food. Nonperishable goods and hot meals are available for those who seek help at one of the city's three emergency family services or overnight shelter locations.
